Venn diagrams can be used in social science or history classes to compare and contrast different political ideologies, national identities, or historical periods. In a math class, students might use Venn diagrams to differentiate geometry concepts or to show the relationship between sets of equations. Venn diagrams can support many different teaching styles as well as different academic subjects and topics. If you’re wondering what Venn diagrams are used for, and what the benefits are of using a Venn diagram in your classroom, just think about how frequently students practice comparing and contrasting items, concepts, or events. At a broader level, Venn diagrams can be a very effective tool to help students organize information visually, better understand the relationships and overlaps between items or groups, and develop a plan for a project. When students create Venn diagrams, they are better able to make decisions, reason through logic, and detect patterns in data when they use tools like Venn diagrams to support their thinking. For teachers, Venn diagrams can help you quickly and effectively communicate differences and similarities, provide a simple visual aid for a lesson, or distinguish between multiple concepts or ideas. There are many benefits to using Venn diagrams in your classroom. This type of diagram is easy for users to understand, while also being easy to create. Though we have probably all used Venn diagrams for visualizing comparisons in a variety of settings - at school, at work, or at home - you may be wondering: just what is a Venn diagram? Invented by the mathematician John Venn in the 1880s, this common graphic organizer is useful as a compare-and-contrast diagram that helps people visualize information and concepts in a clear and concise manner. ![]() If you’re a newbie kindergarten teacher, just do your best and aim to get them moving every 10-15 minutes! I do have anchor points in our day – which are specials, lunch, and dismissal. There are no times listed since I have no idea how long any of these items will take me with the new group of kinders, but I try to use my general sense of kindergarten time-space continuum to plan smart. I write it out in note form (what makes sense to me) and try to plan in this order: I write out just about every little thing I can fit into my lesson plan template. I say that lovingly and kindergarten teachers will agree. These preparations help me keep myself on track the first day of school since we have no routine established, have a lot of kindergarten procedures to learn and we have the attention span of a goldfish. Paint your child’s right foot onto a white sheet of paper leaving space for your child to write (or dictate to you) one way that he or she will make sure to start the school year off on the “right foot.” For example, “I will read each night at home. Set up a painting area (outside may be best or else inside with newspapers protecting the floor), and be sure to mix some hand soap into the paint (the paint will wipe off much easier that way, from both skin and clothes). Younger children, especially, will enjoy this activity. Children will be amazed to see how their answers have both changed and stayed the same - and how much their hands have grown! 8. Then you can all open the time capsules at the end of the school year. Roll the paper up, put it inside the paper towel roll, and wrap the roll in tissue paper (like a giant Tootsie Roll). On the back of the paper, have kids trace their handprints. Ask them to write down a hope for the school year. Ask children to list their favorites - book, song, color, movie, television show, class subject. Create a simple questionnaire for your child (depending on your child’s age, they can answer and you can record their answers). An empty paper towel roll works wonderfully. Add a hand-written note letting your child know how much you miss them, or maybe telling a joke! Jazz it up to make it fun.
